Mono Araña

El mono araña, de la familia del mono aullador, es una especie de primate que se encuentra en varias regiones de México. Cuenta la leyenda maya que los dioses al crear la naturaleza, concibieron a unos seres humanos de madera que no tenían alma. Estos seres eran incapaces de adorar a sus creadores, entonces los dioses molestos decidieron destruirlos, poniendo a la naturaleza en su contra.

A pesar de esto, algunos de los seres sobrevivieron, viviendo en los bosques, pues subían a los árboles para permanecer a salvo. Más tarde estos seres se convirtieron en monos.

El mono araña tiene también una función de suma importancia en la naturaleza como proveedores y dadores del cacao, la semilla sagrada.

La relación que hay entre el mono y el cacao es benefactora para ambas partes, mientras la planta le ofrece una pulpa dulce y sabrosa al mono, éste dispersa su semilla, ya sea al defecar o al consumir la pulpa y desechar el grano, completando así su ciclo natural. Es así como el mono se asocia con la fertilidad del cacao

The Spider Monkey, a relative of the Howler Monkey, is a primate found in several regions in Mexico. According to Mayan legend, when the gods created the natural world, they also created human beings who were made of wood and had no soul. These creatures were not capable of worshiping their creators, so the gods wanted to destroy them by turning nature against them.

Despite this, a few of those beings survived, dwelling in the forests, and climbing the trees for safety. Later, those same creatures would turn into monkeys. The Spider Monkey would also play a very important role in nature as the giver and provider of cocoa, the sacred seed.

The relationship between these monkeys and the cocoa plant is beneficial for both sides: The plant offers its sweet and tasty fruit to the monkeys, and they disperse the seeds, either by defecating or by eating the pulp and discarding the bean, contributing to the natural cycle of cocoa.
